It's a day of showdown between the BJP-led NDA government and the opposition Congress party both inside and outside Parliament. While the Congress has decided to hold a protest march led by party president Sonia Gandhi, the government has decided to keep the battle within Parliament.
Leaders of the Congress, including Sonia Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi, are slated to march to Parliament from Jantar Mantar in a show of strength.
The Congress is protesting the "witch-hunt" by the Narendra Modi government over the Uttarakhand political crisis and AgustaWestland VVIP chopper issues.
According to the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has much to answer for as it could have ordered a probe into the deal with a company that the Congress claims to have blacklisted. The Congress has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government of deliberately targeting and maligning Sonia, Rahul and other leaders.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, "CBI and ED are targeting us. The farmers are in distress, the youth is directionless because of the policies of this government. We are protesting against that."
In response to the protest march by the Congress, the ruling party has also decided to hold a protest inside Parliament.
NDA constituent Shiv Sena rallied behind the government on the issue, saying the Congress should not talk about saving democracy. "It is a joke if Congress takes out a march to save democracy. If anyone murdered democracy in this county, it is Congress," said Sena MP Sanjay Raut.
