Kozhikode: Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Suryakanta Mishra on Thursday alleged that anarchy was prevailing in the state after Trinamool Congress came to power in the state.
"An anarchic situation is prevailing in West bengal. After the TMC was voted to power an unprecedented attack on democracy has been unleashed in the state," he said.
Initially the attacks were against Left Front parties, particularly CPI(M), he said, adding about 41,000 people were evicted from their homes in just over 300 days of TMC rule.
Mishra alleged that 58 Left Front workers have been killed and 4,000 seriously injured in attacks by TMC activists. The public were also not allowed to register complaints with the police, he said. "Even the activists of Congress, who are partners of TMC, have not been spared in attacks."
He said 411 gram panchayats were 'taken over' by TMC after forcing gram panchayat members to either resign or defect to TMC.
Mishra said even the print media had came under attack and recalled that the Government had recently issued a circular stating that only certain newspapers could be purchased by public libraries.
