Bengal: 43 ministers to take oath with Mamata
Mukul Roy is said to be the Minister of State in regard to the Railways.

Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee is to be sworn in as the first woman Chief Minister of West Bengal on Friday and, along with her, another 43 ministers will be taking their oath.

Mamata Banerjee on Thursday resigned as the Union Minister of Railways and Mukul Roy is likely to be made the Minister of State of Railways until the next Cabinet reshuffle.

The number of 43 ministers of West Bengal does not sit with Mamata's assertions of having a small state cabinet and council of ministers. The grapevine has it that Mamata has been forced to look at a sizeable army of ministers as she had promised all regions, communities and alliance partners an equal share in running the West Bengal government.

Banerjee, who will be the eleventh Chief Minister of the state, will be administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor M K Narayanan on the southwest lawn of the 208-year-old Raj Bhavan.

The Trinamool Congress list of ministers include Amit Mitra, Partha Chatterjee, Manish Gupta, Subrata Mukherjee, Abdul Karim Chowdhury, Sadhan Pandey, Upen Biswas, Sabitri Mitra, Bratya Basu, Madan Mitra and Noore Alam Chowdhury.

The swearing-in will take place at a ceremony in the presence of 3200 invitees drawn from among the top names in politics, business, art and culture, as per the wishes of the Trinamool supremo.

On Sunday, the Trinamool Congress had formally staked claim to form the government shortly after Mamata was elected its Legislature Party leader.

Trinamool Congress and allies Congress and SUCI stormed to power in the state with a three-fourths majority signalling the historic changeover in the state's politics.

Congress, which secured 42 seats, is likely to join the Mamata Banerjee government.
