BJP keeps up PM bashing, calls him sad, helpless
'Can a sad man lead a resurgent nation?' asks Arun Jaitley.

New Delhi: A senior BJP leader on Tuesday called Manmohan Singh a “sad and helpless” leader—the second such attack the party has made on the Prime Minister since last week.

"The nation needs to reflect on a question 'can a sad man lead a resurgent nation?’ Neither the Prime Minister nor his office is doing the nation a favour by projecting him as a helpless leader," senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley.

Jaitley was commenting on reports that Singh felt “let down” by his UPA allies for not supporting him in the Indo-US nuclear deal. He said the UPA government is "paralysed by internal contradictions."

"The reality thrown up about the sad and helpless Prime Minister is a cause for national worry. Can a sad and helpless prime minister lead India? India is a growing, youthful and resurgent nation. It needs an enthusiastic leader who can take decisions and implement them," Jaitley said.

Jaitley said Prime Minister's recent statements on the nuclear deal seemed like “condolence” messages. "The Prime Minister's speech at the Hindustan Times summit that one has to live with the disappointment but life must go on is a typical Indian condolence message. This speech displays the state of the Prime Minister's mind."

Jaitley alleged that the UPA government has not taken any significant decision in the recent months and dubbed reports about Prime Minister being embarrassed over the nuclear deal has a “pathetic spectacle”.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shanker Prasad on October 19 called Singh “a desperate rattling of a Prime Minister” who had "lost his sense of balance" and suffered from "selective amnesia.

The BJP began its attacks on Singh after he said the party didn’t have the “guts” to sack Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for 2002 “holocaust”.
