New Delhi: A day after a case of sexual assault was registered against self styled Godman leader Asaram Bapu by a teenager in Delhi, BJP leader Uma Bharti on Thursday came out in his support.
Uma took to Twitter to extend her support to Asaram and wrote that the Congress is targeting Asaram for opposing Sonia and Rahul Gandhi and that Asaram is innocent. She tweeted, "Asaram Bapu is innocent. He is being targeted for opposing Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. False cases are being filed against him in Congress states. We are with Asaram Bapu."
The remarks came even as the Delhi Police team reached the ashram in Jodhpur earlier today. Sources told CNN-IBN that Asaram Bapu and the teenager were present in the ashram on the day of the incident. An ashram spokesperson had denied that the spiritual leader was present in Jodhpur.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot came out strongly agaisnt Asaram and said, "If Asaram is proved guilty, he should be punished. Priests and yogis should keep themselves away from such kind of allegations."
The 16-yr-old girl, who filed the case, was living in the hostel of Asaram Bapu in Jodhpur. According to the complainant, the incident took place on Monday.
A joint team of Delhi and Rajasthan police has taken the girl to Jodhpur for verifications. The medical reports of the girl have confirmed sexual exploitation as she had said in her FIR against Asaram.
A case against Asaram was filed by a 16-year-old girl who was living in the hostel of Asaram in Jodhpur. The case was filed at Kamla Market police station in Delhi. After filing the FIR in Delhi, the case was transferred to Jodhpur.
