New Delhi: Amid reports that his party may attempt to form the government in the national capital, BJP's Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay on Friday met Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung at Raj Niwas.
The meeting comes a day after Jung met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for about 20 minutes and reportedly discussed various issues including the political situation in the national capital.
Upadhyay, however, clarified that the issue of government formation "did not figure at all" during his 50-minute meeting with the Lieutenant Governor (LG). He said he took up with Jung the problems of guest schoolteachers and the issue of release of water to Delhi from Haryana.
Upadhyay said that he had also urged the LG to ensure a corruption-free administration in Delhi. "We told the Lt Governor that a guest teacher is being paid only about Rs 7,000 per month whereas an ordinary employee gets minimum wages much higher than this."
"In the last 15 years, the Congress Government disregarded the interests of the teachers due to which 18,000 posts of teachers are lying vacant... and education has become a business in which contract teachers are being forced to work. As a result the standard of education in government schools with all the amenities are deteriorating," he said.
Upadhyay further said that the LG had expressed deep concern over the problems of teachers and promised that the administration would consider the matter seriously.
The LG's attention was also drawn towards the decrease in the quantity of water being released from Haryana, and BJP said that the officers of Delhi should raise this issue in the meeting of Upper Yamuna River Board on August 1.
The BJP president also submitted a memorandum to the LG, in which the party demanded establishment of women police stations in every district and sensitisation of policemen.
