EC Issues Show-Cause Notice to Mamata for Poll Code Violation
Mamata however dismissed the notice at another public meeting in Birbhum's Muraroi, saying she did not repent what she said on Thursday afternoon.

The Election Commission on Thursday issued a notice to West Bengal CM Mamata Bannerjee for repeating her promise to convert Asansol into a separate district after the Assembly polls.

The EC said Mamata violated the model code of conduct when she made this announcement during an election rally in Asansol. She has to reply to the notice within a fixed time frame failing which EC can initiate action.

Mamata however dismissed the notice at another public meeting in Birbhum's Muraroi, saying she did not repent what she said on Thursday afternoon. She also added that she would repeat what she said if needed be.

Earlier, in another incident, Parliament's Ethics Committee sought explanation from five Trinamool Congress MPs, who were allegedly caught accepting cash in a sting operation aired by a news-portal in March.
