New Delhi: The Congress which is not leaving any stone unturned in the deadly Vyapam scam has now upped its demand for a Supreme Court monitored Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the scam. The case is getting murkier with each passing day and at least 48 people have died in the case.
Accusing the involvement of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's office, Governor Ram Naresh Yadav's office and many high profile people in the multi-crore scam, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, "We cannot trust the Special Task Force to do a fair job investigation when the Governor's office and the CM office is all involved in the case. STF is being compromised, MP police and the entire MP administration has been compromised as the CM's family, the Governor's office and many powerful officers in the state are involved in the case."
Singh, who is also one of the petitioners demanding a CBI probe, alleged that the state judiciary might be involved in the scam. "I do not have evidence but some reports even suggest that state judiciary could also be involved. CBI is the only agency that can go into the case. We demand a Supreme Court monitored CBI probe," said Singh.
Singh also claimed that the state government is shielding the influential people in the high profile scam.
The Congress is in no mood to relent and the issue is certainly going to be raised in Parliament which may result in the washout of the Monsoon session.
Refusing to divulge the party's plan, Singh said, "Congress Parliamentary Party will decide on whether to take up this matter in the Parliament session this time. It is not just MP but people outside MP are also involved in the case so it can be a central subject."
Training its gun against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh questioned inaction against the Governor. "The PM has removed all Governors who did not have an FIR against them but did not remove a Governor who had an FIR against him. The attempt is to protect the unholy nexus in the case," said Singh.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has also accused the Congress of politicising the death of journalist, who died while reporting on the scam. Singh hit back at the BJP saying, "Going to a funeral is not politics. A very young investigative journalist died while investigating the case."
Akshay Singh, TV journalist with the India Today Group reporting on the Vyapam scam died under mysterious circumstances in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. The journalist suddenly took ill and died after having interviewed parents of a girl who had been found dead near railway tracks after her name figured in the scam.
The Vyapam scam has become a major political controversy with numerous witnesses and accused dying under mysterious circumstances. The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam relates to irregularities in admission in state-run medical colleges and recruitment in government jobs.
