Jammu: Ahead of Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, veteran Congress leader and former minister Chaudhary Garu Ram and two senior National Conference leaders on Friday joined the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ram along with senior National Conference leaders from South Kashmir-Ghulam Qadir Tak and Peerzada Abdul Hamid joined the PDP in presence of the party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Welcoming the new entrants into the party fold, Sayeed said it is heartening that the people in sufficient numbers are becoming part of the PDP and reposing their faith in the party's agenda which aims at bringing lasting peace, development and prosperity in the entire state.
He said the PDP through its people-oriented agenda has already laid strong foundations for the state's political and economic stability, which would be further consolidated to realise the objective of inclusive peace, dignity and prosperity for people.
Calling for a decisive mandate for PDP in the forthcoming elections, Mufti said the 2014 is a turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.
People have to again provide legitimacy to the electoral process by voting in large numbers in the coming elections, he said.
"We need to have a stable government to give a new direction to the state," he said, adding that PDP stands out for its performance and credibility and the people have to give it a chance so that it could complete its unfinished agenda of good governance and political resolution.
Exuding confidence in the leadership of the PDP, the new entrants said they have decided to join the party owing to its pro-people and revolutionary policies.
They said Jammu and Kashmir is presently passing through the difficult times and it is only credible leadership of the PDP which not only can ensure the lasting peace in the region but will take the state to new heights of development and prosperity.
