Ahmedabad: Congress leaders Shaktisinh Gohil and Narhari Amin on Sunday visited the family of suspended IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt, who has been arrested for allegedly threatening a constable and fabricating evidence.
"We extended our support and sympathies to them," former Gujarat deputy chief minister Narhari Amin said after he and Leader of the Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil met Bhatt's family.
"We have family like relations with the Bhatts for so many years. It is unfortunate that a serving IPS officer is treated like this," Amin said.
"More than 40 policemen searched Bhatt's house on Friday evening, what kind of treatment was this?" Amin asked adding, "This shows they are acting directly under the chief minister (Narendra Modi's) orders."
The two leaders stayed there for over 20 minutes and assured Bhatt's family of full support.
Senior Congress leader and former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela also visited Bhatt's family this evening to express his support.
The state government's actions is nothing but "political vendetta" against an upright police officer who spoke against the government, he said.
