New Delhi: Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said on Wednesday that the UPA government must implement recommendations of Sachar Committee "in toto".
He said that Muslims were “yet to get their due” after six-decades of the country's independence, and hence the Sachar report recommendations must be brought into effect.
"We are least bothered about protests from the opposition on the issue of implementing the recommendations of the Sachar Committee. The UPA government will implement all the recommendations of the Committee," Lalu was quoted by PTI.
The railway minister said that the Centre was committed to the cause of Muslims since they have always been a “neglected lot” and are yet to receive their due 60-years after India's independence.
"It is unfortunate that their credibility is still being questioned," he remarked.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh set up a parliamentary committee headed by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A Fatmi to suggest measures for the welfare of minorities, Prasad added.
The committee has submitted its recommendations that are likely to be approved by the Union cabinet soon, he said. Prasad said the valuable contributions of Urdu in the first freedom struggle would never be forgotten.
"Urdu is not a language of any particular community, religion or caste but it is the language of entire India," he noted.
