New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at the Centre over Food Security Bill and inflation.

Modi claimed the government was imposing the Food Security Bill on the state governments without taking any responsibility for the success of the scheme. "I am surprised at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for saying that it's the state's responsibility to get grain during drought, failed crop," said Modi.

The Gujarat strongman claimed that the bill will not provide any relief to the poor claiming that the country will not accept it. "The extra 10 kgs if the BPL family has to buy from the market will cause an extra burden of Rs 1,000 on them," he said.

He claimed that smaller states lack adequate resources to provide food grains to the poor if such an eventuality was to happen and pressed for his demand to call a meeting of all chief ministers on this bill.

The BJP leader also claimed that the Centre was not doing much to curb inflation.
