Joint Parliamentary Committee to meet on Monday to discuss Land Bill
Congress feels the proposed amendment dilutes the retrospective applicability of the 2013 law passed by the UPA government.

New Delhi: Ahead of the winter session of Parliament another confrontation is brewing between the opposition and government over the pending Land Acquisition Bill. The final meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee(JPC) on Land Bill will take place on Monday.

The final report will be submitted in the winter session of Parliament beginning on Thursday. Sources say Congress members of the committee are skeptical of the government's stand on pending issues. Congress members KV Thomas, Jairam Ramesh, Digvijay Singh, PL Punia will meet before the JPC.

The bone of contention remains Section 24 (2) of the 2013 Land Bill. Congress feels the proposed amendment dilutes the retrospective applicability of the 2013 law passed by the UPA government.

Meanwhile, the government floor managers are working out a strategy to tackle the Opposition in the winter session. Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will meet leaders of NDA in both Houses on Tuesday, a day before he holds an all party-meeting on November 25 to reach out to Opposition to help the government pass the key bills.
