Bangalore: As many as 84 candidates filed their nominations on Friday for the May 5 Assembly elections on the second day of the poll process, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anil Kumar Jha said. Jha said 27 candidates had submitted their nominations on April 10, the first day when filing of papers began.
To a query on the prominent names in the list he said, "sitting MLAs and ministers are yet to file their nominations". He said 17.36 lakh new application forms under 'Form 6' had been received from the entire state for inclusion of names in the voters list, out of which 11.26 lakh had been approved.
To a question, Jha said a case has been filed against Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil for his recent alleged hate speech in Belgaum and also against Deputy Chief Minister KS Eshwarappa for a similar speech in Shimoga. "We have given the speech copies (both) to the EC and are awaiting directions from it", he said.
To a query on former Bangalore City Police Commissioner Jyothiprakash Mirji challenging his transfer pursuant to the EC's direction before the Central Administrative Tribunal, Jha said "we have the received the notice in connection with the Original Application filed by Mirji".
