Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole on Friday stoked a fresh controversy after he said that the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya would be purified by the Shankaracharyas if the opposition’s INDIA bloc came to power in the Lok Sabha polls.
Patole claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn’t follow the right rituals before performing the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Lalla at the Temple as Shankaracharyas, the biggest priests in the Hindu religion, vented their disagreement with it.
“We are going to purify Ram Mandir in Ayodhya after INDIA Alliance comes to power. Shankaracharyas were opposing this (Pran Pratishtha), all the four Shankaracharyas will purify the Ram Temple. Ram Darbar will be established in that place. It is not Lord Ram’s idol there, but the child form of Ram Lalla. Narendra Modi has acted against protocol in Ram Temple construction. We will do it through rectifications and religion,” he told media persons on Wednesday.

When probed further on the mode of purification, Patole said that the Shankaracharyas will lead the Pran Pratishtha ceremony in a way that is acceptable as per Hindu customs.
The Congress leader claimed that the Shankaracharyas objected to the way the consecration ceremony was performed at the Ram Temple, but the “BJP and Prime Minister ignored it”.
Patole’s remarks have triggered a fresh row, with Pramod Krishnam, who quit the grand old party recently over its anti-Sanatan stand, slamming the Congress leader for insulting and derogatory remarks.
“This is an absurd and ridiculous statement. By taking Lord Ram’s name, one becomes pure. All our sins get washed away by taking his name. What does Congress want to say by purification?,” Krishnam asked.
He also advised the Congress to first get rid of their hatred against Lord Ram before talking about purification.
“If Congress pursues such rhetoric, this will spell doom for the party,” he added.
