The Masuri police station was attacked and 20 vehicles set on fire after a copy of the Quran was found to be desecrated.
New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Monday visited Masuri in Ghaziabad, where violence last week left six people dead. The Masuri police station was attacked in the violence and 20 vehicles set on fire after a copy of the Quran was found to be desecrated, its pages filled with graffiti.
Although the Uttar Pradesh government suspended two police officials for failure to control the violence, the Congress sought a report from Alvi.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav sought refuge in criticising the police for the violence, saying that they failed to diffuse tension despite having information that violence could break out.
