Puducherry: Revenue and Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao on Monday retracted his decision to contest the April 13 assembly polls and said he would seek re-election from his home constituency of Yanam (an enclave of Puducherry in Andhra Pradesh).
He said he had taken the decision as he could not overlook the wishes of the people, especially more than 15,000 of them who had held a meeting in this regard and urged him to remain in politics.
He told PTI he would file his nomination papers for Yanam seat on March 24. "I am waiting for the formal official announcement of my candidature from the party," he said.
He said he formally informed PCC leader A V Subramanian, Union Minister V Narayanasamy and Chief Minister V Vaithilingam and AICC of his decision on Monday.
Rao was first elected as an Independent to the Assembly from Yanam in 1996. He had emerged victorious successively in all polls held in 2001 and 2006 when he contested as a Congress candidate. "I will remain in politics", he said.
