New Delhi: On a day when the Narendra Modi government completes a month in the office, the Prime Minister held a meeting with top ministers of his Cabinet to discuss measures to tackle inflation.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan were present at the meeting.
According to sources, PM Modi assessed the impact of the monsoon. He was told by the Met Department that the monsoon situation will improve. The Met department has predicted monsoons to improve in July and August - the El Nino effect is expected to be lesser than what was previously assessed.
The government has put in place drought mitigation measures. However sources say that they will only be applied only if the monsoon situation worsens. The government has also decided to increase the minimum export price for potatoes to 450 dollars per tonne.
Modi has also said that states should set up special courts for speedy trial of hoarders and black marketeers.
