Maharashtra Congress leader accuses Shiv Sena of abduction, murder.

New Delhi/Mumbai: Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane has alleged the Shiv Sena kidnapped his cousin Ankush Rane, who was found dead on Sunday after being reported missing on Friday.

Ankush, a businessman, didn’t return to his home in Varavde village in coastal Sindhudurg district after visiting Kankavli town on Friday. Police filed a missing person’s report and suspect a dead man found near Kankavli is Ankush.

Narayan alleged that the Shiv Sena abducted Ankush to intimidate voters. The Congress politician’s son, Nilesh, is contesting Lok Sabha elections against Shiv Sena leader Suresh Prabhu, who was Union Power Minister in the NDA Government, in Sindhudurg-Ratnagiri Lok Sabha seat.

Narayan alleged Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, who is managing his party’s campaign in Sindhudurg, abducted Ankush. "They (Shiv Sena) are trying to terrorise people. I am sure Sanjay Raut is involved in this act," said Narayan.

The Shiv Sena rejected the allegations and accused Narayan of mudslinging. "There is no reason why there should be any accusation against the Shiv Sena. Narayan Rane has not given any proof; this is mudslinging. Police must conduct an investigation to find the truth," said Sena spokesperson Bharat Kumar Raut.

Sanjay Jadhav, the Deputy Superintendent of Police at Sindhudurg, told CNN-IBN an investigation was on and it had not been established yet that the dead man was Ankush.

Rohit Chandavarkar, CNN-IN’s Political Editor, West, reports that Ankush ran a flourishing transport business and was not involved in politics. Ankush and Narayan were not on good terms and reportedly had a dispute over money.

PTI reports in the 2004 elections the Shiv Sena had blamed Narayan Rane for the disappearance of their party worker Ramesh Govekar.

Narayan, a former Shiv Sena leader, was suspended from the Congress in December 2008 after the party overlooked him and appointed Ashok Chavan as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister. Congress chief Sonia Gandhi took him back into the party in February 2009.
