Pawar for UPA consensus on Presidential choice
Pawar for UPA consensus on Presidential choice
The NCP Chief said the TMC and the SP's choices of names for the President's post had necessitated consensus within the UPA.

New Delhi: NCP President Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said that parties in the UPA should discuss and evolve a consensus on the Presidential candidate in the light of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Samajwadi Party (SP) coming out with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's name as among their choices for the high post.

"In the light of new developments, we will have to talk to all concerned (in the UPA) in the light of the TMC-SP decision and try to bring a consensus on the Presidential choice," he told reporters.

Pawar was reacting to the decision of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and SP leader Mulayam Singh Yadav announcing the names of Manmohan Singh, former president APJ Abdul Kalam and former speaker Somnath Chatterjee as their candidates, on one of whom political parties can evolve a consensus.
