Social Worker Sends Legal Notice to CM Shivraj Chouhan Over Padmavati Ban
Harimohan Bharseniya, the man who filed the PIL, said by announcing a ban on Padmavati, which is yet to be approved by the Censor Board, the CM seems to have stifled the freedom of expression.

Gwalior: A social worker from Gwalior has sent a legal notice to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the Madhya Pradesh government’s decision to ban Padmavati movie.

Harimohan Bharseniya, the man who sent a legal notice, said by announcing a ban on Padmavati, which is yet to be approved by the Censor Board, the CM seems to have stifled the freedom of expression. The notice said the movie might get clearance from the Censor Board but would not be screened in MP due to the ban.

“If the Chief Minister’s Office fails to respond to my notice within three days, I would be compelled to file a PIL,” he said.

Purushottam Rai, Bharseniya’s lawyer, said movies are regulated by a system in which Censor Board certifies the film and anyone having problems could move either the High Court of Supreme Court.

The lawyer said the ban breaches the law and is illegal. “We have asked which part of the movie tampers with the history, which characters are tampered with and where the CM saw the film as it is yet to released,” Rai added.

The notice said taking a decision merely on the basis of speculations and assumptions is unbecoming for a CM.
