New Delhi: The TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu's fast unto death on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh comes to an end. The Delhi Police, who had been dillydallying over shifting him out of Andhra Pradesh Bhawan in New Delhi, have finally acted. A large number of Delhi police entered AP Bhawan, evicted him by force and taken him to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital for the treatment.
The TDP supporters tried to prevent the police from taking Naidu away. But, the police dispersed them and put him onto an ambulance and drove him away at 3 o'clock.
Chandrababu had been on an indefinite fast at Andhra Bhawan on Ashoka road over the division of his state. The Resident Commissioner of AP Shashank Goyal had served a notice on him asking him to vacate AP Bhawan premises. But, Naidu had refused to do so. The Delhi Police which reports to the Union home minister was also reluctant to act. According to sources, his deteriorating health condition forced the Delhi police to take him away. Naidu is a diabetic and his ketone level was increasing.
Naidu was expecting a lot of high profile visitors to call on him at the AP Bhawan. But, he was disappointed. Only a handful of leaders from the opposition met the fasting leader. It includes JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav, Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal, Assom Gana Parishad chief Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev.
Naidu is still making highly ambiguous statements on Telangana. Unlike the YSR Congress chief and his principal rival YS Jaganmohan Reddy, he is not openly opposing the creation of Telangana. He repeatedly said that he was fasting seeking justice for all regions.
But, Naidu's stand has made him unpopular in both Seemandhra and Telangana. The Seemandhra people feel that he has betrayed them and the Telangana people view him with suspicion.
After Jaganmohan Reddy started an indefinite fast in Hyderabad, Chandrababu was forced to come to national capital to launch his fast.
According some insiders Naidu actually wanted a face saver to end his fast and the Delhi police aided him by evicting him from the fast venue. His fast has failed to generate much sympathy for him back home in AP.
The Cyclone Phailin, which is expected to him Andhra coast, is likely to force the anti-Telangana agitators to end their strike.
