Telangana: Jagan wins first round of fast politics
The Hyderabad Police action against the fasting Jagan Mohan Reddy has generated a lot of sympathy for him in the Seemandhra region.

New Delhi: Some in New Delhi's corridors of power are hoping that Cyclone Phailin will end government employees strike in Seemandhra region of Andhra Pradesh. The cyclone is expected to hit the northern part Andhra Pradesh coast in the next 24 hours. The severity of the cyclone might force the striking employees to call it off and return to work.

The people of Seemandhra, whose quiet life has been hit by a two-month long anti-Telangana agitation are bracing for the cyclone.

But, the political leaders who are leading the anti-Telangana agitation are making their own calculations.

The Hyderabad Police action against the fasting YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy seems to have generated a lot of sympathy for him in the Seemandhra region. Jagan, who has been admitted to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, vows to continue his fight for the united Andhra Pradesh even as he is being administered fluids by the doctors.

Jagan's arch rival in Andhra Pradesh politics and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu who is also on a hunger strike at the Andhra Pradesh Bhawan in New Delhi has completed four days of fasting. His party colleagues claim that his health is deteriorating.

The Andhra Pradesh Bhawan administration has already served a notice on him to vacate it s premises.

But, Naidu is not relenting. The Central government is reluctant to act against him fearing a sympathy wave in his favour. Some TDP insiders say Naidu wants the Delhi Police to evict him from Andhra Pradesh Bhawan premises.

According to political observers in Andhra Pradesh, Jagan has already stolen a march on Naidu by vehemently opposing the creation of Telangana. It is likely to benefit him hugely in the next Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Chandrababu Naidu's attitude of 'have the cake and eat it too' seems to have cost him the public support in both Seemandhra and Telangana. He has spoiled his own strategy by making contradictory and ambiguous statements on the bifurcation.

The first round victory in the hunger strike politics has gone to Jagan.
