UPA way ahead of NDA in early trends
Congress-led UPA is ahead of BJP-led NDA in early trends.

New Delhi: The Congress-led UPA was way ahead in 198 constituencies while the BJP-led NDA was leading in 125 seats in early trends for 420 seats in the Lok Sabha elections as counting of votes was taken up on Saturday.

The Congress alone was leading in 155 constituencies while the BJP was ahead in 100. The Third Front including the Left parties was ahead in 62 while the Fourth Front consisting of SP, RJD and LJP was placed at 27.

The Congress and its allies were doing well in major states like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, West Bengal, Delhi, Rajasthana, Maharashtra and Punjab.

The BJP and its allies put up a good showing in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka.

In the crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, Congress and the SP were ahead in 15 seats each while the BSP was leading in 12. BJP was ahead in 12.

The UPA was leading in 73 constituencies including in Kerala and Rajasthan while the BJP-led NDA was ahead in 59 seats including in Karnataka, Bihar and Himachal Pradesh.

The Left was ahead in four while other smaller parties were leading in 36.

Congress' Rahul Gandhi was ahead in Amethi. Sachin Pilot(Ajmer), P Chidambaram (Sivaganga) and Shashi Tharoor(Thiruvananthapuram) were also ahead. Prominent BJP candidates who were leading included Jaswant Singh from Darjeeling.

Congress' Janardhan Poojari and Margaret Alva were trailing in Karnataka.

Commerce and Industry minister Kamal Nath was trailing in Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh while former prime minister H D Deve Gowda was ahead in Hassan in Karnataka.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad was leading in Pataliputra but trailing in Siwan in Bihar.

Among the Congress candidates who were leading in early trends were Priya Dutt(Mumbai North), Jyotiraditya Scindia(Guna), Pranab Mukherjee(Jangipur) and Sandeep Dikshit(East Delhi).

BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani was ahead in Gandhinagar in Gujarat. His party colleagues Vinod Khanna, Sushma Swaraj and Varun Gandhi were leading from Gurdaspur, Vidisha and Pilibhit respectively.
