From the beginning till a couple of hours into counting, BJP seemed to be cruising towards the halfway mark effortlessly. But trends start reversing in the last 60 minutes.

Several opposition leaders took the opportunity to attack the BJP, with NCP chief Sharad Pawar calling for the resignation of Governor Vala. He also called BJP President Amit Shah and PM Narendra Modi “power hungry.”

BS Yeddyurappa's resignation comes after multiple allegations by the Congress that he and his party members tried to buy out MLAs offering them ministerial posts and crores of rupees as rewards for allegiance.

The Supreme Court issued notices to Karnataka government and Yeddyurappa seeking their replies on the plea filed by Congress-JD (S) combine and posted the matter for Friday.

In a communique, Vala invited Yeddyurappa to form the government and take oath as chief minister on Thursday. He also asked Yeddyurappa to seek a vote of confidence within 15 days of assuming office.

Janata Dal (Secular), led by former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and former CM HD Kumaraswamy, is leading in 38 seats and will decide which one of the two national parties gets to be king.
