Neena received many offers to star in films, but she refused to act in them. In this process, she rejected the offers to play the lead roles in many films as well. She then went on to sign K Balachander’s production Vidukathai (1997) directed by Agathiyan. Neena’s performance in the film won applause from all corners upon release. One of the reviewers wrote that her acting is excellent. The reviewer wrote that she brings out every aspect of the character she is playing, especially the clear-cut deliveries of her dialogues. As per the reviewer, this emphasises the inner strength of the character. She also acted in Kamal Haasan’s Nayakan and few other films. Neena then returned to prioritise television roles, appearing in dramas such as Chithi.
Chithi was one of the significant milestones in Neena’s career trajectory. Neena’s portrayal of the character Kaveri Madhavan helped her build a massive fanbase over the years. Chithi was such a massive hit that it premiered again during the lockdown imposed during Covid-19 period.
