Meta is coming up with a big upgrade to its Quest 3 VR headsets. The company has announced that it will integrate advanced AI vision capabilities into its latest VR headsets, similar to the features offered in the Meta Ray-Ban glasses. The update will begin rolling out in the US and Canada in experimental mode next month, Meta said in a blog post.
The initiative to integrate Meta AI into Quest VR will provide the user access to Meta's 'intelligent scanning' of the physical surroundings.
The blog further states that as a part of the Meta Horizon OS, Meta AI will let users go beyond the hands-free experience. With the upcoming update, users can get answers to a wide range of questions with real-time information via the Bing search engine.
Additionally, the update will allow users to ask questions about their physical surroundings while using the headset. For example, if you’re watching trip videos in the mixed reality while packing for your upcoming vacation. You can ask the Meta AI to help you choose an outfit for your holidays.
“Millions of users have already tested Meta AI through Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, the web and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, and we’re excited for even more to tap into the power, intelligence, and utility of Meta AI on Quest 3. It’s still early and there will be more functionality added later. We can't wait to see how you use Meta AI in-headset, and we'll have more developments to share shortly,” the blog post added.
Meta AI with vision, however, will not be available for the Quest 2 headsets.
Additionally, the Meta AI features on the Quest headsets will only be available in the experimental mode in the US and Canada. The Meta Quest 3 was launched in October last year. It costs $499.99 (Rs 37,300 approx) for the 128 GB variant and $649.99 (Rs 48,600 approx) for the 512 GB variant in the US.
