YouTube reportedly planning a paid video service
YouTube is said to be exploring the prospects of a VOD service that will be ad-free and stream the site's best original content.

New Delhi: Google's YouTube is reportedly planning to launch its own monthly subscription video service for the best original content on its site. The video-site is said to be exploring the prospects of a VOD service that will be ad-free and stream certain video content that's part of the program.

A report in The Verge said that if such a subscription service is rolled out, it will be similar to YouTube Music Key that provides ad-free access to select music videos and free streaming from Google Play Music for an introductory price of $7.99 per month.

Some of the best original content that could possibly feature in this speculated service could likely include videos from YouTube stars under the YouTube Originals banner.

YouTube's competitors, Vimeo, Hulu, Vessel, and others are also working towards roping in the YouTube original stars to host their videos on their sites in exchange of a more lucrative percentage of ad revenue.
