Following heavy rains over the past few days, Hyderabad has been struggling with a flood-like situation across the city. While daily commuters are toiling hard to make it to their workplaces, there have been other instances of unexpected wild encounters amid the rain. Recently, a huge Burmese python was spotted in the city, something that left locals in a state of panic. The incident took place near the Mir Alam Tank in Hassannagar, where the six-foot python was spotted on Saturday evening.
Videos doing the rounds on the internet show glimpses of the deadly snake and also the snake catcher with it. “A large snake was rescued in the Hassan Nagar area by professional snake rescuer, Mir Shakeel Ali. Many curious onlookers gathered around to see the python and clicked pictures and videos of it. After much effort, the snake was caught and would be released into the wild. According to Telangana Today, Mir Alam Tank is a frequently visited spot for snakes, especially during monsoons when snakes of different species venture towards the residential areas.
Hyderabad Floods
The snake sighting comes at a time when heavy rains have hit Hyderabad city, disrupting transportation and daily life. Several routes have been affected as streams and rivers overflow.
While schools and colleges remain closed on Monday, the traffic police have also urged companies to allow their employees to work from home. “In view of continuous rainfall and the red alert issued by the IMD, I request all IT and ITES companies to encourage work from home on September 2 (Monday),” said D Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Cyberabad.

On the other hand, the weather department has issued a red alert, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rains at isolated places like Telangana’s Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhuvangiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy and Mahabubnagar districts. Neighbouring Andhra Pradesh is also expected to receive heavy rains in some places.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are presently stationed in Hyderabad and Vijayawada for necessary conditions.
