In recent times, there has been a noticeable increase in incidents involving stray dogs posing risks to public safety across the country. These encounters have resulted in severe injuries for some individuals while tragically claiming the lives of others. One such heart-wrenching incident occurred when a 55-year-old man found himself in a devastating situation as a stray dog darted in front of his vehicle, leading to a fatal car crash that claimed the life of his wife. In the aftermath of this harrowing event, the husband, identified as Paresh Doshi, residing in Gujarat’s Narmada district, decided to file a First Information Report (FIR) against himself.
Paresh Doshi, a teacher, and his wife, Amrita, had set out to visit the Ambaji Temple. The tragedy reportedly took place on their return journey along the Kheroj-Khedbrahma highway, near Daan Mahudi village, reports The Times of India. Recounting the sequence of events leading to the accident, Doshi shared with the portal, “My wife and I left our house early on Sunday and reached Ambaji temple around noon. However, the temple was closed. We waited till 1.30 pm, offered our prayers and left. I was driving towards Suka Amba village when a stray dog ran in front of our car. I swerved to avoid hitting the canine and lost control of the vehicle, which rammed sideways into makeshift pillars and barricades on the roadside.”
In the FIR lodged against himself, Doshi detailed the circumstances surrounding the accident, attributing it to his own negligence while attempting to evade the stray dog. The impact of the crash proved fatal for Amrita as one of the barricades pierced through the car’s passenger window, trapping her inside and inflicting injuries.
Recalling the frantic moments following the accident, Doshi said, “She suffered grievous injuries. Due to the impact, the auto lock mechanism got engaged, trapping us inside. Bystanders rushed to their rescue. Someone broke the glass on the window, opened the lock and helped us out of the car. Amrita was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead.”
Doshi then held himself accountable for the tragic incident and filed a complaint against himself for rash driving and causing death by negligence.
