These rental relationships involve activities that imitate a genuine relationship, like going on dates, dining together, attending events, or just enjoying each other’s company. While this is a familiar concept in Japan, it’s quite rare in India. However, an Indian woman recently shook things up by suggesting a similar service, causing quite a stir online.
Taking to Instagram, a woman who runs the page @divya_giri__ posted a reel where she posed in the mirror with the text, “Single? Willing to go on a date? Rent me for a date!!” She then outlined the rates for various types of dates: a ‘Chill Coffee Date’ for Rs. 1500, a ‘Normal Date (Dinner & Movie)’ for Rs. 2000, a ‘Bike Date’ for Rs. 4000, a ‘Public Post About Our Date’ for Rs. 6000, and more, going up to Rs. 10,000.

Now whether this was meant as sarcasm or a scam, it certainly got the internet talking.

“Girl thinks she’s in Japan,” joked one user, referencing Japan’s well-known rental girlfriend services, which are part of a larger industry including rental families and friends. This concept has even inspired manga, anime, and movies, highlighting its unique role in Japanese culture.
Soon, the Instagram reel began spreading across other platforms, with many people suspecting it to be a scam. A user on ‘X’ wrote, “All these are simply scams.” Another warned, “This is honey trap. So stay away from, if you trapped thn asking lakhs of money, so beware.”
