'Life Gave Me A Second Chance': Man Survives After No Heartbeat For 50 Minutes
Despite facing seizures, kidney failure and a blood clot that affected his breathing tube, Ben astonished doctors by standing up.

A man experienced a miraculous return to life 50 minutes after his heart stopped beating at home. Ben Wilson, 31, had a severe heart attack due to a blood clot in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, on June 11 last year. His fiance Rebekka Holmes, 27, performed CPR until the ambulance arrived and paramedics used a defibrillator to revive him multiple times. Ben went into a coma after undergoing a successful heart stent operation. Doctors initially told Rebekka that the outlook was bleak due to Ben’s unhealthy lifestyle.

Despite facing multiple setbacks, Rebekka remained by Ben’s side, expressing her love constantly. She sang their song Dream a Little Dream of Me, sprayed her perfume on his pillow and placed a teddy bear he had gifted her, with the words “Love you to the moon and back,” beside him.

“I firmly believe that my love for him played a crucial role in his survival. It truly is a miracle that he made it through, but some studies suggest love and physical touch can have a positive impact”, Rebekka said.

“Ben, who has always been a romantic at heart, showered me with flowers and cards. I felt like I was returning the love and affection he had shown me over the seven years we had been together. We truly feel like soul mates”, she added.

Despite facing seizures, kidney failure and a blood clot that affected his breathing tube, Ben astonished doctors by standing up and speaking just five weeks after waking up from a coma. His first words upon waking were his wife’s name, “Rebekka.”

Rebekka explained “It was a beautiful moment for us both. After 14 weeks of rehab and eight-and-a-half months post-heart attack, Ben finally returned home last Thursday. He is now looking forward to planning our wedding and I firmly believe that it was my love and loyalty that helped him survive”.

She also added “We are incredibly grateful for the exceptional medical care provided by the staff at Northern General Hospital. We owe Ben’s survival to the dedication and expertise of every single person involved in his treatment”.

Ben expressed his gratitude for being given a second chance at life and he credits his wife for being his side, which played a key factor in his recovery. Dr Jennifer Hill, the hospital’s Medical Director, praised Ben’s remarkable progress and resilience, highlighting the skill and dedication of the medical teams involved in his care.
