The woman ultimately had to borrow money from the watchman of her building to pay the auto fare.

Following the introduction of online payment methods, many youngsters have stopped carrying cash. This service enables hassle-free transactions as people are now able to send and receive money through their smartphones with ease. While UPI payments have now become popular in every part of India, there are many vendors and shopkeepers who have yet to trust this facility. Recently, a woman from Chennai found herself in a tricky situation after an auto driver rejected online payment upon reaching the destination. She shared her experience via an X post, which soon became viral across the internet.

The woman shared a picture featuring a stern notice pasted on the windshield of the auto. It read, “GPay not available. No stop for ATM withdrawal.” She provided more information about the auto ride in the comment section.

The woman, who is a visual artist by profession, booked the ride from an online application. She, however, was not aware of the fact that the driver would not accept UPI payment. The man didn’t inform her anything about this before arriving at the pickup location.

The woman got to know about the rule after seeing the note inside the auto. It undoubtedly came as a shock to her as cashless payment has now become a norm for online cab booking. She wrote in the caption, “It was nice knowing y’all.”

The post has received massive traction on the microblogging site, garnering over two lakh views and more than 7000 likes. Many users slammed the auto driver while some shared similar experiences in the comment box. One of them could relate to the situation of the woman and labelled it as the “worst nightmare.”

One user feels the auto driver should have pasted the framed message outside the vehicle. “Uncle must have put this outside the auto instead of inside,” he wrote.

A person reckons many auto rickshaw drivers deny UPI payments as they don’t want to bear the burden of tax and that’s why they want “real money in their hands.”

As many users wanted to know the end of the story, the woman further revealed that she was not carrying cash. She ultimately had to borrow money from the watchman of her building to pay the auto fare.
