According to a recent study conducted by Sun Life, a financial services company, many Britons have already meticulously planned their funerals, opting for unconventional and imaginative themes.
In the past year, Sun Life engaged with funeral directors and residents to uncover a plethora of creative funeral plans. Some individuals expressed a desire for their final send-off to reflect their love for science fiction and fantasy, envisioning funeral directors dressed as iconic characters like Darth Vader from Star Wars or Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. Others opted for a Rocky Horror-themed ceremony, urging mourners to attend adorned in suspenders and stilettos.
The eccentricity didn’t stop there; some requested attendees to don high-visibility clothing, pyjamas, or nothing at all, reflecting diverse preferences and beliefs. Festive twists were also popular, with some choosing to be laid to rest dressed as Santa Claus or infusing the ceremony with lighthearted activities like conga dancing.
Additionally, individuals sought to pay homage to their professions, with requests ranging from coffins lined with hay for farmers to fruit and vegetable arrangements for greengrocers, deviating from traditional floral tributes.
