A couple’s discovery of a hidden piece of history while excavating their garden has left them baffled. Now is the time of year that a lot of us work in our gardens, tending to them in preparation for the spring. Though we frequently unearth fascinating items when excavating, can you fathom stumbling across an old bomb shelter, right on the premises of your home?
According to The Sun, while remodelling their garden, a woman named Bex and her spouse discovered a hidden tunnel. England resident Bex said on TikTok that the reason she hadn’t seen it sooner was because of a “large thick slab” that covered it. However, she and her partner finally got to the bottom of it after lots of digging.
Once they ventured into the hole, they found themselves in a long forlorn shelter full of pottery, rat traps, glass bottles and a hell lot of spiders. Bex said, “We investigated its past. It served as a shelter for all the moms in the area and their kids. A few years after we moved in, a few locals told us it was there but we did not give much thought to it. Besides, a thick slab near a tree kept it hidden. Although that end has been covered, it emerges at the bottom of the road. It follows that our garden is the only entrance and exit.”
The couple opted to install lights inside after Bex mentioned that she received a lot of interest from photographers hoping to take pictures of the area. Even though a lot of people have advised the homeowners to turn the area into a man cave, game room or rental house, they claim they have yet to make plans to change much of it. The video also has people asking them to use the discovered shelter as their panic room. Bex, however, said that at least for the time being, they want to keep the shelter the way it is.
