'Virus Was Right in 3 Idiots': Redditor Argues Not Everyone is Smart as Rancho But No One's Buying it
Was Virus in '3 Idiots' right about running the 'rat race' in life? Redditor's opinion gets mixed reactions on the internet.

‘3 Idiots’ brilliantly illuminated the eternal truth that happiness in life stems from intelligence, smart choices, and the courage to break away from the monotonous rat race. Rancho, the maestro of versatility, opened his friends’ eyes to the paramount significance of pursuing passion and having the confidence to do what’s right. The 2009 movie painted Chatur (the Silencer) and Virus as antagonists of the ‘rat race,’ earning our collective disdain.

Yet, a Redditor has injected a fresh perspective into the discourse, contending that Virus might have been onto something by highlighting the reality that not everyone can match Rancho’s intellectual prowess.

“In my opinion, Virus was right in ‘3 Idiots.’ The 1st reason for my belief is that hard work can secure a good job for everyone, while learning may only guarantee a good job for geniuses,” asserted the user @AdTrick7283 on the ‘IndianAcamedia’ subreddit. They underscored the reality that not everyone is endowed with genius intellect, suggesting that memorisation could still pave the way for top scores and lucrative employment opportunities.

Drawing inspiration from the movie, the Redditor delved further, stating, “Silencer was also successful as well. He had a manaion, a rich girlfriend, a lot of wealth, and was going to sign a contract with a famous scientist, Phunsukh Wangdu, who had rejected all his clients who were international clients. This was how successful he was, since he had good grades. The other 2 who had tagged along with Rancho were not successful at all, since they were not smart enough to understand concepts.”

Not stopping there, the Redditor delved into India’s surging population, asserting that dodging the rat race becomes an involuntary challenge as thousands and lakhs compete in examinations, making it nearly impossible to gauge their conceptual understanding.

Switching gears to Shah Rukh Khan, the Redditor argued that his ascent from a non-film background exemplified how ‘hard work’ could triumph over nepotism and elevate one above the rest.

While the post stirred the pot on the platform, dissenting voices emerged, staunchly asserting that the essence of the movie lies in finding joy in one’s chosen path, not in the pursuit of a conventional career or materialistic milestones.

“It’s not about getting a good career, job, money, big house…, it’s about doing what you like and living like that even though you earn less, it shouldn’t matter, as long as you are satisfied with your job,” declared one user. Another chimed in, “U definitely didn’t got the point of the the movie or u r too young… In the end we all want to be happy.. That’s the only motto of the movie.”

“I disagree partially.. as the movie is not about success but about excellence. I can’t say that virus was completely wrongly but it’s just that I didn’t agree with his ways of enforcing discipline,” came the third while the fourth said, “This is one of the worst posts I’ve seen in a long while. One of the points of the film were that being ‘successful’ doesn’t mean having the most money or a good wife, being successful is being happy with what you do.”

Amidst the discourse, voices emerged emphasising that ‘intelligence’ doesn’t hold universal sway.

So, what’s your take on this cinematic rollercoaster of perspectives?
