Watch: Athlete Reveals The Reality Behind 'Cardboard Beds' At Olympic Village
The latest edition of the Olympic Games has become a centre of discussion for various reasons, especially the cardboard beds.

The 2024 Paris Olympics is getting interesting with each passing day. No, we are not talking about the action happening at various arenas. It is about the Olympic Village. Athletes have been sharing glimpses from their stay at the village. And then there are few who have gone candid about the food and accommodations. Speaking of which, as the cardboard beds from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are back this year, athletes have shared their takes on this creative idea.

Sofia Reinoso, the 27-year-old kayaker from Mexico who was among the first ones to reach Paris, revealed, on Instagram, if the beds were actually made from cardboard. And, it seemed like the doubts were cleared. In the video, she pulls up the mattresses to reveal that the bed frame is made from cardboard boxes. “Responding to one of the most asked questions,” she wrote in the caption.

Social media users instantly took to the comments section and reacted to the video. While some actually supported the idea of using cardboard frames for beds, some wondered whether it is helpful for the athletes’ health. A user wrote, “Inexpensive. Recyclable. Intended for a 2-week lifespan. 100% functional. Seems actually quite awesome. The comfort is in the mattress,” while another commented, “Imagine being a world-class athlete.. training all of your life, making it to the Olympics, and sleeping on a cardboard bed.”

A user criticised and wrote, “France failed in all the aspects to host the Olympics.” A section of users even went on to draw likes to the similar beds that were used during the event in Tokyo.

Notably, Sofia is not the only athlete who has drawn attention to the beds being provided to athletes. Earlier, British diver Tom Daley released his own video assessment of the beds on Instagram. In the video, Daley knocks on the cardboard to show its strength to the viewers, before finally jumping on top of it.
