The incident happened at the Taman Safari in West Java, Indonesia. In the video, shared on X, a hippo is seen standing at the edge of its enclosure in the water, with its mouth open, when a group of tourists arrived. One of the tourists sitting in the car was seen trying to feed a carrot to the animal as it opened its mouth. But in the meantime, another tourist in the car threw what appeared to be a plastic bag into the animal’s mouth. But, what was even worse was that the animal began chewing it.

“I hate zoos, and this is one of the reasons. Just sitting and looking at the animals bums me out. I know some are healing, etc., but dang man. Let a brother be free,” remarked another person.

Meanwhile, Taman Safari Park’s spokesman, Alexander Zulkarnain, informed the Jakarta Globe that the tourist had been identified and asked to make a public apology. “We have identified the license plate of the vehicle carrying that person. We urge him to make a public apology to teach a lesson to other visitors about complying with the standard operating procedures at the Indonesian Safari Park,” he said.
“We have collected information from our guards and security cameras at the park. Guards told us that this particular visitor had been reprimanded several times for opening the window in the tiger area,” the spokesman added.
In addition to that, Alexander Zulkarnain said that the hippo has been examined and that the creature is in a healthy condition.
