Easter tradition will see egg hunters out in force on Sunday, March 27. Those looking for fun and adventure on a larger scale can head to one of this year's giant egg hunts, organized for kids of all ages. Here's a look at just some of the most original events being held around the world this Easter.
France - Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte (55km/34mi from Paris)
Built for Nicolas Fouquet, the superintendent of finances under Louis XIV, and inspiring Versailles, Vaux-le-Vicomte will see clues hidden all around its classic French garden, designed by Le Nôtre. Rather than a traditional egg hunt, Vaux-le-Vicomte will be hosting a treasure hunt with an international flavor, based on Easter traditions around the world. Clues will lead hunters to Leonidas chocolate eggs. The event runs March 26-28, and entry costs €17.50 (approx. $19.50) for adults and €14.50 (approx. $16.10) for children under 18.
New York, USA - Central Park
The Big Apple's most famous park will be hosting an egg hunt for kids aged 4 to 11 on Saturday, March 26, starting on the Heckscher Playground lawn. Thousands of Easter eggs will be hidden around Central Park in this free event. Younger kids can even meet the Easter Bunny. Note that the Bronx Zoo is also organizing an egg hunt.
Sydney, Australia - Centennial Parklands
A stone's throw from the Opera House and the Surry Hills neighborhood, Centennial Park is where sydneysiders head for a breath of fresh air. An Easter treasure hunt will be held March 26 and 27, between 9:30 am and 3 pm. Participants will have 30 to 45 minutes to solve clues as they follow the trail on a special map. At each stage, kids can take part in activities to win Darell Lea chocolate eggs. A map costs $17 AUD (approx. $12.75) and reservations can be made at www.centennialparklands.com.au. Younger kids can get their photo taken with the Easter Bunny.
London, UK - Battersea Park Children's Zoo
Situated on the south bank of the River Thames, this zoo is run by a family committed to wildlife, conservation and education and is home to goats, pigs, emus, monkeys and more. A special trail even lets kids get up close to meerkats. The zoo's Easter egg hunts run March 25 to 28, with brightly colored eggs hidden in animal enclosures for kids to spot as they visit the zoo. A quiz sheet costs £1.50 (approx. $2.15) on top of the usual entry fee of £8.95 (approx. $12.80) for adults and £6.95 (approx. $9.95) for children aged 2-15.
Northern Ireland - Cadbury Easter Egg Hunts
The famous chocolate maker will be hiding eggs in several historic houses and gardens around Northern Ireland this Easter. At Mount Stewart, egg hunters will follow clues that lead them to the Easter Bunny in events held March 25-29, which cost £1 (approx. $1.43) to enter. A similar egg hunt will be organized at Castle Ward. Eggs will also be hidden around Rowallane Garden, March 28 and 29, from 10:30am to 3:30pm.
