Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s New Website Stirs Controversy by Featuring Their Sussex Title
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle unveiled a new website titled Sussex.com and stirred a controversy by using their title and the royal insignia.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in a controversial move unveiled a new website but with their Sussex title and prominently featuring the royal insignia. The Archewell webpage has transitioned to Sussex.com, a site showcasing their biographies and summarizing their latest works.

However, according to a report by the Daily Mail, concerns were raised due to the usage of the Sussex title and royal insignia for seemingly commercial purposes. The report said it could lead to objections from Buckingham Palace.

“They are going to have real trouble with the use of Sussex. It is a royal title and if there is any hint of commercialism about this it will be shut down. It’s just staggering they cannot see how gauche it is,” a person from the Royal Family familiar with the developments told the UK-based newspaper.

But the couple may defend their actions by citing that they are merely using their family name. “Prince Harry and Meghan are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That is a fact. It is their surname and family name,” a person close to the couple was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

The Sussex.com homepage can exacerbate tensions between the Royal Family and the couple. The homepage greets visitors with a photo from the Invictus Games’ closing ceremony in September 2023 featuring the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The webpage is titled Duke and Duchess of Sussex and prominently features their royal crest.

In the webpage, Harry is described as “a multifaceted individual engaged in humanitarian efforts, military advocacy, mental health, and environmental activism”. His wife is described as “a staunch feminist and advocate for human rights and gender equity”.

The news section of the website will serve as a platform for sharing both personal and official updates from the Duke and Duchess.

The website’s launch comes shortly after Prince Harry visited King Charles who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this month. Harry’s visit was seen as a sign of thawing of relations between the father and the son after the latter in his autobiography lashed out at members of the royal family along with his father.
