The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has proposed a new metro line to connect North-East Delhi with the Trans Hindon area in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. The extension of the Pink Line aims to improve connectivity to densely populated areas.
The DMRC has submitted the proposal for this new metro line to the central government, Delhi government, and the Uttar Pradesh government. If the government approves this proposal, the DMRC will conduct the survey and complete the necessary formalities for the new metro route.
The proposed metro corridor will run from Gokalpuri to Arthala, via DLF and Dilshad Garden Extension-2. North-East Delhi, with a population density of 36,155 people per square kilometre according to the 2011 census, has the highest density in the region.
The proposed metro corridor will commence from the existing Gokalpuri metro station on the Pink Line, which currently runs between Shiv Vihar and Majlis Park. It will extend to Arthala, passing through Dilshad Garden Extension-2, DLF, Hindon Airport, and along Wazirabad Road on the Delhi-UP border.
If approved, this corridor will connect the existing Red Line with the under-construction Pink Line. According to the DMRC proposal, the Pink Line Metro will be extended from Gokalpuri Metro Station in Delhi to Arthala.
In Ghaziabad, this route will reach Arthala via Loni Gol Chakkar, DLF, Shalimar Garden, Hindon Airport, Bhopura, Tulsi Niketan, Rajendra Nagar, Hindon Air Force Station, New Karhaira Colony, Karhaira, and Loni Road Industrial Area.
The Red Line Metro may also be connected to Arthala. The Pink Metro Corridor is expected to be longer than both the Blue and Red Lines. Currently, Ghaziabad has two metro corridors: the Blue Line Metro, which runs approximately 2 km from Anand Vihar to Vaishali, and the Red Line Metro Corridor, spanning about 9.5 km from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda.
The proposed Pink Line Metro Corridor is set to be about 13 km long and may include more than 10 stations. The construction of this new corridor will significantly improve Ghaziabad’s connectivity with East, South, and West Delhi.
Once the Pink Line Metro extension is complete, people of Ghaziabad will benefit from direct metro connectivity to South Delhi. This connectivity will ease travel to various locations including North-East Delhi, East Delhi, Mayur Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Ashram, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, Sarojini Nagar, Bhikaji Cama Place, Delhi Cantt, Rajouri Garden, Punjabi Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, Azadpur, and Majlis Park.
