Residents of Gurugram can look forward to enhanced connectivity and relief from traffic congestion, thanks to the recent approval of two new metro routes by the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC). These new routes are set to connect over 24 areas within the city, offering significant transportation improvements.
The first proposed metro route, stretching 17 km from Bhondsi village to Gurugram railway station, will traverse Vatika Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sadar Bazar, and the Gurugram bus stand. Running primarily along Sohna Road, this route will connect with the Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar RRTS line at Rajiv Chowk and integrate with the metro extension from Millennium City Centre at the Gurugram Railway Station.
The second new metro route will span 13 km, linking Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5. Key stops will include Millennium City Centre Metro Station, Signature Tower Crossing, Rana Pratap Chowk, and Atul Kataria Chowk. Running primarily along Sheetla Mata Road, this route is part of a broader plan to develop an extensive metro network across the city by 2031.
2024 has already been a landmark year for Gurugram’s infrastructure. The inauguration of the Dwarka Expressway (Gurugram section), the commencement of the metro extension from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, and ongoing redevelopment efforts at Gurugram Railway Station have all contributed to the city’s growing connectivity and modern amenities. The addition of these two new metro routes further enhances Gurugram’s transit network, promising a brighter, more accessible future for its residents.
Gurugram’s southern region is rapidly emerging as a prime real estate hub within the NCR, benefitting from its proximity to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and commercial centres such as Cyber City and Golf Course Road. Enhanced connectivity via the Gurugram-Sohna Elevated Road makes this area highly attractive to professionals, with major commercial, retail, and entertainment venues accessible within a 15-minute drive. These new metro routes are expected to greatly improve connectivity throughout South Gurugram and the SPR area.
Pradeep Aggarwal, Founder and Chairman of Signature Global (India) Limited, said that the the two new metro routes in Gurugram will significantly enhance connectivity and reduce travel time, benefitting residents and boosting the city’s infrastructure. This expansion is expected to drive up demand for homes along these routes. With the premium housing market in the NCR region expanding rapidly, areas like SPR, South Gurugram, and the Dwarka Expressway are poised to become key hubs, he further said.
Aman Sharma, Managing Director of Arise Group, added that improved connectivity will undoubtedly stimulate growth in both residential and commercial sectors from Bhondsi to SPR and South Gurugram, leading to increased demand and higher property prices.
Ashish Sharma, AVP Operations at Brahma Group also noted that the new metro lines will ease daily commutes and enhance overall transportation and with Gurugram emerging as a major real estate hotspot, metro expansion will further its development.
Gurugram stands out in the NCR for its connectivity. While traffic congestion remains a challenge, the expanding metro network promises increased convenience. The city benefits from multiple expressways and transportation options, including Railways, Rapid Metro, Delhi Metro, and the forthcoming Rapid Rail. Last year, the Haryana government established Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL), which will extend the metro by 28.5 km from Millennium City Centre to Cyber Hub.
The current government’s ongoing infrastructure initiatives are a significant boost for the city, promising expanded metro rail coverage to densely populated areas and major business districts. This development will alleviate traffic congestion and potentially energise Gurugram’s real estate market.
