The Indore Metro route passing through Palasia Square is set to overlap an elevated roadway proposed by the Public Works Department (PWD) at the same place.
The report on the Metro project stretching from Robot Square to Treasure Island is expected to be submitted to Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya by next week. Once it gets a nod from the department, the groundwork will begin on the stretch.
Palasia Square is one of the busiest places in Indore, offering several modes of transport to daily commuters.
The PWD corridor will be built over the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). After this project was proposed, questions were raised regarding the Metro stretch. According to Indore Metro’s additional managing director Anil Joshi, the route will pass above the PWD corridor and its height will be nearly 15 metres from the ground level.
It has been agreed between the PWD and the Metro authority that the elevated corridor would be constructed at a height of six metres. The metro pillars would be six metres above the roadway and the metro track would be three metres above it. The Metro will set off from Patrakar Colony Metro Station and will travel through the elevated corridor before stopping at Chappan Dukaan Metro Station.
According to a report by Free Press Journal, the designated agency has yet to receive tenders for the Metro corridor at Palasia Square. The Minister of Urban Development, Kailash Vijayvargiya, has requested assessments regarding the project’s viability along the planned route where the Metro project is being considered. It is anticipated that the report will be handed out by next week and further decisions will be made afterwards.
Meanwhile, the Indore Metro authority has been doing the marking work in the following phase of the said corridor with much urgency. Construction work is slated to be wrapped up on the stretch between Robot Square (Shaheed Park) and Treasure Island later this year.
The consultant agency has already completed the survey to identify the private-government constructions and encroachments that are obstructing the corridor. The Metro railway department has also finalised the potential locations where the stations can be built between Robot Square and Palasia Square.
