New Delhi The market closed on an extremely positive note on the back of buying seen in scrips across sectors.
Asian markets also saw a come back and ended in green. IT majors Satyam and Wipro came in with strong set of numbers and gave some encouraging guidance which acted in favour of the market.
Also India cements numbers were above street expectations and Gujarat Ambuja came in with inline results.
However, on the macroeconomic front the market the inflation numbers came in above expectation at 6.09 per cent. But markets shrugged off the concerns after intial jitters and clawed back.
The midcap and smallcap index ended in green but the front liners out performed the broader markets. The breadth was positive with higher volume.
HDFC, Satyam, Tata Steel were the star performers and each of them up over 5.5 per cent.
All BSE sector indices closed in green with metal index leading the up trend due to surge in metal prices. Oil and gas, IT and capital goods index ended significantly higher.
On weekly basis Sensex and Nifty ended up 4 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,699.08 up 47 points or 0.83 per cent. The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 6,974.37 up 69.08 points or 1 per cent.
The BSE Bankex was up 1 per cent at 6,914.37. IOB, SBI, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra, ICICI Bank moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1.5 per cent at 9,797.90. Greaves Cotton, HEG, Aban Offshore, SKF India, Praj Industries closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 9,702.28 up 3.5 per cent. JindalStainless, SAIL, Tata Steel, Jindal Steel, NALCO advanced higher.
The BSE IT Index gained 1.6 per cent at 5,055.098. Satyam, Mphasis, Patni Computer, HCL Tech, TCS advanced.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,052.08 up 2.7 per cent. MRPL, Petronet LNG, Reliance, ONGC, IOC ended higher.
The BSE FMCG Index closed flat at 1,811.71. P&G, ITC, Nirma closed higher.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8842.15 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 36605.08 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4303.35 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 49750.58 crore.
