Maruti Q2 net surges by 40 pc
The company's vehicle sales in the first half of this fiscal have moved up by 15.2 per cent at 3,02,631 units.

New Delhi: Buoyed by higher sales and realisations, car market leader Maruti Udyog reported on Thursday a 39.8 per cent rise in net profit for the quarter ended September 30, at Rs 367.4 crore against Rs 262.6 crore in the same period last year.

The company, 54.2 per cent owned by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, said total income (net of excise) in the period grew 12.5 per cent in July-September 2006 period at Rs 3,540.8 crore from Rs 3,146.8 crore in the same period last year.

Sales for the Indian car market leader grew 12.1 per cent in the period at 1,57,683 units against 1,40,543 units in July-September 2005.

The company has been witnessing higher realisations as sales of models like 'Swift' and the new 'WagonR' have been healthy, giving better margins.

EBIDTA margins in the second quarter this fiscal were up by 2.4 per cent at 17.6 per cent from 15.2 per cent in the same period last year, Maruti said.

Maruti's net profit in the first half of this fiscal was up a whopping 50.6 per cent at Rs 737 crore against Rs 489.1 crore in the same period last year.

Total income (net of excise) in April-September 2006 moved up by 16 per cent at Rs 6,809.6 crore against 5,870.5 crore in the same period last fiscal.

The company's vehicle sales in the first half of this fiscal have moved up by 15.2 per cent at 3,02,631 units against 2,62,409 units in the same period last year.
