New Delhi: Another feather in her cap as PepsiCo's CEO Indra Nooyi will assume the additional title of Chairperson of the cola giant.

Nooyi joined PepsiCo in 1994 and directed worldwide strategy for over a decade.

She became CEO of the company in October last year, being the first woman to take the post.

Prior to being elected CEO last year, Nooyi served as President and Chief Financial Officer. She was elected to PepsiCo's Board of Directors in 2001.

51-year-old Nooyi succeeds Steve Reinemund, who steps down on May 2. Reinemund, 58, served as CEO for five years.

PepsiCo first announced in August that Reinemund was retiring to spend more time with his family.

PepsiCo is the No 2 soft drink maker after rival Coca-Cola Co and has been adding beverages to expand its non-carbonated soft drink offerings.

Indian-born Indra Nooyi was the primary architect of PepsiCo's restructuring and transformation, including the merger with Quaker Oats and the acquisition of Tropicana, which added some of the world's strongest health and wellness brands to PepsiCo's portfolio.

She becomes the fifth Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in PepsiCo's 42-year history.

Nooyi is the CNN-IBN's Indian of the Year in the NRI category.
