Jai Bhim delves into a true incident involving the custodial torture and death of a tribal man in Tamil Nadu in 1995. The film incorporates elements of fiction to magnify the narrative. However, after the film’s release, Suriya faced threats that prompted the deployment of police personnel at his residence in Chennai’s T Nagar.

The film also faced legal challenges, with the Vanniyar Sangam alleging that it depicted their community in a negative light, particularly through the portrayal of a police sub-inspector named Guru and the depiction of the community’s fire pot symbol. They sought Rs 5 crore in damages. The court, however, recently dismissed the case.

Jai Bhim also features a talented ensemble cast, including Lijomol Jose, Rajisha Vijayan, and Prakash Raj, who played pivotal roles in bringing this impactful story to life.
