Tirunelveli Sisters Turn Entrepreneurs To Support Single Mother

Two sisters from Tamil Nadu, Padmavathi and Pragati, have garnered attention for their resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. The siblings, hailing from Kondanagaram town in Tirunelveli district, have ventured into the world of business by selling bags online. Despite managing their entrepreneurial endeavour, Padmavathi is concurrently preparing for government job exams. Their journey is rooted in their determination to support their single mother, who is raising them.

In an interview with Local 18 Tamil, Padmavathi shared that, recognising the financial challenges their family faced, she decided to contribute by starting a business. Her mother, initially reluctant, encouraged her to focus on studies and government job exams instead. Undeterred, Padmavathi embraced entrepreneurship to augment the family’s income. Setting up a stall provided by the local corporation, the sisters began their online venture, offering bags at reasonable prices.

To kick start their business, Padmavathi’s mother sold her jewellery for Rs 12,000. With this initial investment, they commenced buying and selling bags, managing transactions of up to Rs 2,00,000. Despite juggling work and studies, Padmavathi remains committed to her academic goals. She acquires bags directly from suppliers and sells them at competitive prices, providing a diverse range of products to cater to consumer preferences.

Padmavathi emphasized that their entrepreneurial venture offers flexibility and allows them to generate sufficient income within four hours of work. Facing financial hardships since their father’s demise a decade ago, Padmavathi and her sister draw inspiration from their mother, a government officer. Both sisters are diligently pursuing education and aspiring for government jobs, considering them crucial in the contemporary landscape.

Padmavathi’s entrepreneurial journey showcases not only financial resilience but also a dedication to academic and career pursuits. The sisters have successfully navigated challenges, demonstrating the potential for self-sufficiency and empowerment through entrepreneurship.
