Kohli's maximum off Naveen-ul-Haq during India's Super 8 clash against Afghanistan was reminiscent of the batter's straight-batted six against Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf in the 2022 edition of the ICC 20-over showpiece which remains memorable.

Team India star batter Virat Kohli sent the onlookers at the Kensington Oval on a nostalgia trip with his six struck down the ground and into the stands, as he whacked Naveen-ul-Haq for a maximum in the fifth over of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 fixture between India and Afghanistan on Thursday.

“Kohli goes down the ground, Kohli goes out of the ground,” read the post in a nod to the batter’s straight-batted six against Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf in the 2022 edition of the ICC 20-over showpiece which remains memorable.

India won the toss in the game against Afghanistan and skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first as he opened the innings alongside Kohli.

The opening stand did not last long as Rohit was removed in the third over f the game by Fazalah Farooqui after having scored just 8 runs. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant added 20 runs to India’s tally at No.3 before departing to the dugout as Rashid Khan trapped the southpaw plumb in front of the wicket.

Kohli chipped in with 24 runs before falling prey to Rashid, before the crafty spinner picked up his three-wicket haul with the dismissal of Shivam Dube for 10 runs.

Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya put up a 60-run stand in the middle before Surya was sent back by Farooqui, but managed to bring up his half-century scoring 53 off 28. Pandya added 32 runs before Naveen sent him back to the hut.

Ravindra Jadeja was next to go as Farooqui picked up his third of the day as India managed to post a total of 181 for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs with Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh remaining unbeaten on 12 and 2 runs respectively.
