AB De Villiers Reckons Shivam Dube Never Felt Comfortable at RCB, After the Allrounder Says CSK Gave Him Freedom To…
AB de Villiers said Shivam Dube never felt comfortable during his time at RCB and went on to laud CSK management and Dhoni’s skills of bringing the best out of their players.

Shivam Dube is the talk of the town after his match-winning knock of 51 off 23 balls, which helped Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat Titans by 63 runs in match 7 of IPL 2024 in Chennai. After claiming the Player of the Match award, the Mumbai all-rounder stated that the CSK franchise differed from all others and added that CSK had given him freedom.

Dube, who debuted in the IPL in 2019, played his first two seasons with RCB. He batted in 13 innings for the franchise, scoring 169 runs at an average of 16.90. His strike rate for RCB was a meddling 122.46. He then moved to Rajasthan Royals in 2022, making 230 runs in nine innings with a strike rate of 119.17. But since his move to CSK, Dube has turned out to be an impactful player down the order, striking at 158.40, scoring 792 runs at an average of 36 in 27 matches.

“This franchise is different from all others. This franchise is giving me the freedom, and I also want to win some matches for them,” Dube said during the post-match chat after the CSK vs GT game, adding, “I worked in that way as well—it is helping me. I know they are going to bowl short balls, and I’m ready for that. They want me to go on a higher strike rate, and I want to do that.”

AB De Villiers Says Shivam Dube Never Felt Comfortable in RCB

Former South Africa international and RCB player AB de Villiers echoed Dube’s sentiments, saying that the all-rounder never felt comfortable during his time at the franchise. He lauded CSK management and Dhoni’s skills of bringing the best out of their players.

“It’s fantastic to see Shivam like this. He never really broke free in the RCB changing room. He was quite a shy guy, worked really hard, and asked many questions back in the day. I think he did some learning there but never felt comfortable,” said De Villiers on JioCinema.

“He talks about being free in CSK, the magic recipe that MSD, Gaikwad, Stephen Fleming, and all the guys from the past have set up over there. It’s a workhorse of a franchise that makes it work every time, every single season, with new players who feel free to express themselves,” added the South African.
